Modernization and digitalization of the medium voltage network related to the 110/20 kV Navodari substation

For Electricity Networks Romania, ADREM carried out the development, modernization and systematization works of the medium voltage network related to the 110/20 kV Navodari transformer substation, in a strategic project financed by the Modernization Fund. The investment aimed to increase the capacity and reliability of the distribution infrastructure in one of the most dynamic development areas in Romania, characterized by the accelerated expansion of the residential and tourist areas in Navodari and Mamaia Nord.

The project aimed to transform an energy infrastructure developed in stages over time into a modern, digitized network ready to meet current and future consumption requirements. The works included the construction and modernization of approximately 37 km of medium voltage networks, as well as the integration and modernization of the infrastructure related to transformer substations and command and control systems.

As part of the investment, the medium voltage lines supplied from the Navodari substation were modernized, sectors of the overhead network were replaced with underground cables and new concrete envelope transformer substations (PTAB) were installed, along with the modernization of some existing substations. In order to increase visibility on the operation of the network and improve the operation process, network analyzers were installed in 53 transformer substations, contributing to the permanent monitoring of energy parameters and the optimization of the system operation.

An essential component of the project was the digitalization of the distribution infrastructure. In this regard, RTU equipment for remote monitoring and control was implemented, remote control and SCADA systems were integrated, and the communication infrastructure necessary for the intelligent operation of the network was developed. The implemented solutions allow for the rapid identification of incidents, the reduction of intervention times and the more efficient management of energy flows.

By modernizing the infrastructure and integrating digital technologies, the project contributes to increasing continuity in the electricity supply, reducing technological losses and improving the quality of energy supplied to consumers. At the same time, the network is ready for the integration of future Smart Grid solutions and for supporting the accelerated development of the coastal area.

The project confirms ADREM’s expertise in carrying out complex modernization and digitalization works of the energy infrastructure and contributes to the development of a safer, more efficient and more resilient distribution network for the communities served.
